Featured Wood chair...spool, spindle, bobbin? Age?

My latest desk chair. Acquired in Michigan, USA. I thought it rather unusual-looking.
Would this be called a spool or spindle or bobbin chair? I'm not aware of the differences. Age? I was thinking 1930s/40s but possibly older? 50-ish seller said it had been her grandmother's and thought she may possibly have stitched the needlepoint seat, but didn't know anything else. Type of wood? Origin?

No idea, maybe someone else here will be able to answer that. (The possibility had occurred to me, too. I'm glad you asked.)

 

we agree...same factory different seat.....
unscrew the board....maybe you'll find caning holes......or other ID to confirm the seat wasn't original..

 

I would think a bit earlier than mid-century. Maybe circa 1930. The word, bobbin, works for me as a descriptor. Looks like it could be birch with a mahogany stain.

 

Thanks! So my initial idea of 1930s/40s was pretty good. Sometimes, I surprise myself!

It was cheap and it's sturdy, so I'm happy with it.

Nice, @bluumz -- Is it comfortable for sitting? I wondered because of the nail heads (or whatever they are called) all around the seat pad.

 

Yes, I don't even feel them... I'm naturally well-padded.
