Charity shop was a score today! The ladies let me root around in the pile of tangled bits they were sorting through and these came out.

I've already posted about a new potential bakelite bangle on last week's necklace thread, but here's the rest of the jewels.

This necklace is on a modern chain, and does not test silver interestingly enough. But I wonder if this is actually older or is it just in that style? Very sweet either way!

I love the length of this glass/bone necklace, and the colors are a nice match. I'm assuming this is actually bone? Sorry for the quality, not sure whats up today.

Now for the cool bits. I got 4 tesbih pieces, each a euro and I didn't want to break them up as they seemed to all come from the same owner. The Agate (?) and tigers eye ones are both broken, so I'll take that and probably the jade and repurpose them. I'd love to know what the stones actually are though!

Apart from knowing these are nephrite I have no idea what else to look for. It looks like the bauble at the end is silver. No reaction to blacklight, and its much darker in natural light. Are there grades to nephrite or?

    Yes to agate?

    IMG_20240531_155342.jpg IMG_20240531_155353.jpg

Here we go. The big one. My heart dropped when I saw a 750 mark on this, trying hard to not get my hopes up until Im next in the city to get this xrf tested in a couple months.

But the signs are good. The weird dark/copper color polishes right off, I've acid tested the beads, the marked bead, and the chain and all test positive for 18k. When I tested the bead a 'silver' mark was left behind and I thought ah well there we go, but under the loup its just a shinier gold color, which then polished away/matched the untarnished gold. It weighs 32g.

My test spot of the marked bead under a loupe

So what are we thinking? How excited do I get?

They’re prayer beads. I’m wondering if they’re emirati. I think you need someone with an XRF tester. Have you got any Indian jewellers near you?

Yep I've got one in silver already, I do have a jeweler with an XRF I used for some other pieces recently but she's in the city which I wont be going to for a while. No indian jewelers local, or any jewelers for that matter.

Okay great! I'll dive down the jade rabbit hole then. I assumed its just on a costume chain as I can see silver through the gold, but with the silver bauble it might be plated Ill have to check. Good to know on the bone too!

Same here re: suspense, if its legit itll be the biggest score for me. And much needed!

This is just for your information, I'm not suggesting that you scrap it, that would be blasphemous.

Oh I know, my father and I are in to precious metals, I've got a small stash of silver and a few bits of gold, but nothing like this. I will be selling it, but hopefully to the jeweler who I will test it with. They deal in gold jewelry and coins specifically, I don't think they scrap much if anything.

Update: I just sold this this morning for 1,140 euros. :woot::woot: That pays completely for my driver's license! Its expensive here lol. I got the call this morning that the dealer people I mentioned before would take it! Over the moon, 10% commission to my Papa for carting me around to these places, and a donation to the charity I got it from are both incoming.

It might have been mentioned and sorry if I’m posting common knowledge this group is on top of everything, but next time a simple quick test is measure the specific gravity, the associated gold and silver percent values and carat values are readily available if dipping it in water is not a problem even formulas to determine gold content in specimen gold.

    and congrats!

I don’t want to hijack this thread just looking at bugs… no other motive or intention, I’ll delete this if it breaks any rules no problem not posting to sell here.
