Small French bulldog paperweight, age and type of metal?

Hello all, happy Friday! I have a few different items to share today from recent auction winnings. This little paperweight is very heavy, is it gilt bronze or more likely iron? No markings on it that I can see. What age do you think it could be? Thanks as always!

 

Ah, never thought of that thanks! It reacts very slightly to the metal but no real pull.

To me your paperweight certainly looks antique (but other more knowledgeable members will know better than me)

 

I couldn't find much online either. I'm thinking now that I look at him again that he is perhaps a British bulldog in a sailor's hat rather than a French bulldog!

 

I did search sailor English bulldog first.

 

Please note: Lead has no iron in it, therefore cannot be even slightly magnetic.

 

True.Interesting enough is does react slightly to a magnetic field (in opposite direction) I didn’t know at first.

“Lead is not a magnetic material in the traditional sense. It is considered diamagnetic, which means that it responds weakly to magnetic fields. When a magnetic field is applied to lead, it creates an extremely weak magnetic field in the opposite direction. WOW! I didn't know about that property of lead, nor the term diamagnetic. I'm glad to learn of it, an' sorry to have posted my ignorance publicly.
