Sealed in a plastic case. Been trying to get it open but it's been glued shut.

Love the green tag in front describing the contents.

it could be.....but these baskets are known to come from elsewhere......

A typical Tenerife basket, from the Canary Islands, off the west coast of Africa, an autonomous community of Spain. Kits are widely available for making the baskets, so it actually could have been made anywhere.

    That's what I thought too.

I'm guessing this is from the same auctioneer who passes cheap Chinese and Indonesian stuff off as Native American?

The date is all wrong before getting any further. That piece looks brand new; an legitimate antique would have signs of age on it somehow.

I'd add that there are more than one...I have two prolific ones in mind...and there are others.

I was thinking about the other baskets vitry bought at auction, but you are absolutely right of course. Unfortunately auctions and selling venues are full of misrepresentation, also deliberate misrepresentation.:( And it seems the term 'Native American' is misused even more than others.
