Thought was coral but it doesn't bubble in vinegar. Google search says wood, coconut, glass, opal... 1.jpg

    Looks like glass to me.
Glass would be cold, coconut and other wood would not be cold. Opal is not an option.:wacky:

Well, that's quite clever glass then! All in random shapes and different shade of colour...guess they're made to sell as coral?

Agree, beads are something like glass. Is it all one giant strand? How does it fit around the head?

Looks ethnic to me. Maybe African? (Just a guess.)

It's multi-stringed and very long, and yes Google search does mention African

Not very clever, the beads are roughly made and the maker didn't see the necessity to match them, probably because the auspicious quality was more important than the esthetic one.
No. Although some Western sellers will try to do just that.
The thing is, when it looks like glass, it usually is.;) When it doesn't look like coral, it usually isn't.;)

The roughness does make me believe it's natural tho:hungover:

I can't see what the necklace looks like, but it could also be tribal India.

Thanks, a necklace like that is more likely to be African.

Difficult to say, they are still being made. What material is the string?

any time in the last 40 years. I agree on the African. The seed beads they use are often not size-matched.

I saw transparent elastic in the end but between some beads some loose silk comes out

Elastic means it is recent. Silk isn't likely, in tribal pieces. Some elastic has thin strands, maybe that is it?
    I hope you didn't pay too much.:nailbiting:
