If it is a mythical creature, you could also contact Flourish & Blotts in London, and ask if this book is still available

I wonder if they still offer the free owl delivery ...

They may well do as does Tiffany's. But Tiffany's, for instance, charges for doing a record search. Perhaps you'll be lucky enough to find someone there in the silver department with institutional memory.

I have hoot owls outside, who feed themselves. I don't need one of my own.

If anyone is interested, I had a very nice email back from H&I. No records exist of the Tyg but some great photos of the shop where it would have been sold.

Oh! What a lovely answer! And there was genuine interest in seeing your item. So you have your answer. "Zoomorphic" and Celtic-inspired.

They look like boars' heads to me.

Yes, so nice of them to bother to send photos of the shop.
They could well be. Good thought.

The important thing is... If your intent is resale, you have a description in the design language of the original maker.

Yes, always helpful to have some background even if no records exist.
I’m unsure as yet if to sell though,as a dreadful hoarder I’m rather enjoying curating it for a while! I really should sell in the future and probably will if I find the right avenue.

No reason not to enjoy the pleasure of owning it for awhile.

Too interesting. (Only £60?!) Here's the OP's for comparison.

Ouch. Wish I could see Bargain Hunt here, if only for lessons in what isn't selling. OUCH.

That was a surprise for the expert as well. As it had the Chester hallmark, he expected it to sell for much much more.
Not surprisingly, the team that bought this, didn't win ...

It is one of those cases where you never know what happens on the day. Any other day, with other bidders in the room, it could have gone for much more.

If it happens repeatedly, there is probably a reason.
