Bought today, unfortunately the cover is damaged, but the rest looks great.
Any idea how old this is?
And was this used as a medical device, as most describe it? Or was it for another use, as other sellers mention?

I'll bet on medical...based on the graduated glass barrel.

It does indeed look graduated glass, but the lines you're seeing, are the grooves of the plunger.

Might also have been a prop in an insane 1950's Mad Scientist movie... ;) Yikes!

    :hilarious:

In that case it was a prop that was actually used in the movie, as the needles show heat colouring.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

You didn't give a size.....unless it's just a close-up. Otherwise, I'd be thinking more for Veterinary/Large animal use........and from the Etsy Site given, and seeing the two finger tips.....back to probable human use!!:joyful::)

The antiquescientifica example states, "wire clean-outs are stored within the lid". Is anything stored inside the lid of your case?
Are the "needles" actually sharp? If not, then it is not actually a hypodermic. It's intended use may be for flushing.
I do find it odd that a medical syringe would be kept in a silk-lined case but WDIK.

Synthetic fibers weren't invented yet. In the period, probably a good choice for delicate medical equipment.

I don't have it hear with me to measure it, but I think it matches the size of the earlier Etsy link and this one:
    https://www.etsy.com/listing/224260469
    i.e.
    Case~ 3 1/4" length
    Syringe~ 3" (compact)
    Syringe~ 8 1/2" (extended with needle tip)

    https://www.curiositas.paris/en/apo...-of-pravaz-end-of-the-19th-2001698884925.html
"Morphine addicts of the end of the XIXth and the beginning of the XXth century often used this kind of elegant syringe in its small case that could be easily slipped into a pocket."

ah, so that was what was supposed to be hidden there. Nope, nothing there in my case.

Don't know that yet. When I figure that out, you will hear me screaming and crying.

Depends on who I would jab. With some I would still end up screaming and crying.

Looks like the "wire clean-out" is in the needle!
