    Hi there,
Is Etruscan Revival the right description for this? It is a recent purchase so I have no history. It has, what appears to be, the number "17758" scratched into the clasp, photo 7. It feels like a well-made, quality piece. It measures approximately 14.5" and weighs just about 54 grams. I think it is gold but I am not an expert. Would it be worth having someone look at it or would I be embarrassing myself if I did so? Thank you in advance, any information is greatly appreciated. 134-9.jpg 134-14.jpg 134-29.jpg 135-26.jpg 134-30.jpg 134.jpg 134-1.jpg 134-19.jpg

    WOW!
Welcome, Syboni! I think you've really hit the ground running!
That is a magnificent piece of art, an' I agree that it's probably gold.
Others with far better jewelry skills will be along to offer more specific help.

The numbers scratched into the surface are likely to be jewellers reference numbers. To be sure it is gold it would need to be tested. Is it heavy? It would be if it were gold. It is lovely.

You would not be embarrassing yourself. I'm envious. 'Archeological revival' is safe.

Blimey. That’s fabulous. It has some Egyptian references with those lotus heads.

Woahhh! This necklace is MAGNIFICENT! Castellani immediately came to my mind.
No doubt for me, it is gold, but to be absolutely certain it would be better to send it to me for further examination;):joyful:

Sure looks promising for gold as others have stated. Do you have a jeweler you could take it to for checking?

In addition to above, I've seen inventory numbers scratched in by owners of the item for insurance purposes and/or to keep track of items. Usually for more valuable pieces.

Agree to have it tested, and handle with care. If it is gold, it would be quite valuable.

You need a jeweller who understands antique pieces. Don’t let them use acid or scratch it.

@Syboni May I ask the circumstances of your purchase? What the seller said about it? Was it in a costume lot online, or in a charity? Some incredible finds are made this way:woot:
I had some good gold antiques sold for metal on EBay, but rather small pieces (my gold sniffer is always on ON mode, and when clues can be seen on pics...!)

    Breathtaking.:jawdrop: 100% Etruscan Revival.

@Syboni if you have it tested, please make sure they use a non-invasive test. No acid on the necklace itself, and no gouging to get gold off it. In short, nothing that will damage it in any way.
If a test that causes damage is proposed, leave immediately and look for another jeweller.

That is fabulous! And so are you photos. I'm in agreement that it's likely gold. What a great find. Is it wrong that I'm imagining what I'd wear with it? :D
