The thing is, we have Asian members here as well, and they and their knowledge are appreciated. We don't want to see them offended.
We also don't want to put off future members from cultures that you may not understand, or even dismiss.

I am part Indonesian, and my spirituality is Indonesian. The words you spoke are offensive to my background as well. And although I know you suffer from "foot in mouth disease";), I'd rather not be confronted with that kind of attitude either.

I have no idea what that means, but I am not trying to get you anywhere. I do prefer common courtesy though, and I think you are capable of it.

Understood. I truly do not want to offend anyone. I am sorry if I upset you.

Octagon, the cage UFC fighters fight in lol.

Truly I hope I have not upset you.... This journey is draining... If real, I'm going to upset quite a few more people I feel... I just want Peace. The World around me is not peaceful. Well, me and my daughter have peace. I make sure she's a happy kid :p

wow.... Thats a good resource.. The colors on page 3.... Those are all over my sword. I will read this later thank you!

I also sent an email to the archeomettalurgist you recommended yesterday, today. I hope he can help out

Wow, that is a whole course on corrosion in that link, basically haha. Really cool!

Yep. That is why forgers develop patination techniques that reproduce those colors.

Not directly related to this sword but still a factor, items of great importance and value are often a matter of opinion from a "expert". Someone's view on a object can either make or break a work of art but if this opinion were so reliable why are 1/3 of all paintings in art galleries deemed fake?
I've seen the most prestigious auction houses get it wrong, putting such importance in the hands of a few people seems a bit silly to me.
When I went to a famous auction house to inquire about selling an art work I own the item was never taken into consideration just if there was any provenance, it seems like the collecting world has given these "experts" a licence to print money.
Like it or not, these days it will all depend on what an "expert" says.
I did find an "expert" (very difficult) to confirm my item but it took far longer than was necessary, I could have paid a fortune and got one far quicker but it's just another tax on top of auction fees and VAT.
The moral of the story is find a well informed buyer for your item and cut out the middle men, you might need to take a 20% cut in price but that's got to be better than the 45% you will lose if going to an auction and having to pay an "expert"

I started reading that.. I'm no chemist so a lot of that info is greek to me, but definitely some terms I have never heard of which are good to know.

Everything you said is so true and I couldn't of said it better. That's where my brash demeanor comes from. Well, and many other things. I have heard that same sentiment from other historians too. There is ZERO oversight.... The World needs an international group to ethically preserve history. For sure. Which includes artifacts.

The problem I'm having is, I don't want to sell the Akinakes. Its a family heirloom as far as I am concerned. However, if its real. ITS IMPORTANT. To everyone I imagine. I'm trying to get the knowledge recorded, if real. If not... I guess I cost myself a lot of money. If real... You're Welcome, World! Why? Because my daughter has to grow up in it. Everyone should strive to make the world a better place. Tell me Cyrus the Greats sword surfacing could not potentially make the world a better place. I think it would. I think it would beg a lot of questions. Questions make people think. Most of the time in new ways. The kind of stuff that gets people disappeared. Or dare I say, crucified... I have 15 authentic crucifixion nails too.

Plus if the akinakes is real, my other swords are probably too. I got plenty to sale :p. I have no desire for money until I know my daughters not growing up in a Hell Bent world.

This is the reason why Any's advice of getting a metalology age test was such a good piece of advice, if you then take it to an expert and they say "it's fake" you can say then why has it been dated to 1000's of years old?
The truth is no one on here is going to give you a definitive answer, there maybe 1000 fakes to every real one (don't quote me on numbers, I don't have a clue) but trying to convince people on here won't get you anywhere, go and get it tested and post the result, I'm sure members will be interested to hear.

I want to make it clear I AM NOT LOOKING for 100%'s from anyone here. I've talked to Khorasani, posted on reddit, reached out to the MET 3x times, Christies 2x... No one can be 100%. The MET especially, literally used "liability reasons" as a reason for not meeting with me................

The problem is howww, whooooo, and whennnnn can I get in front of someone?! lol. It's been a journey. I posted on Reddit after posting on here a year ago... I accrued around 150k views... 99.999% of responses were pretentious hate under the guise of opinions (my perspective at the time). Despite that I learned so much. We all have our own opinion. Other peoples opinions will expand yours. More perspective is what people should strive for in life, opinions widen perspective.

I came back here because this place is 1000% more respectful than reddit. I'd argue more knowledge on here too.

This is why it can be helpful to have an expert who has spent time learning how to discover and understand this type of information.

Metals generally cannot be dated directly, like C14 dating of organic materials or thermoluminescence dating of some ceramics. But analysis of composition can indicate if an object is consistent with other examples that have been dated by being found in situ in a controlled excavation. Chemical analysis of corrosion products and, more importantly, examination of their layering/structure on the object can help determine if the surface characteristics are the result of years of burial in a natural environment, or more likely the product of artificial patination/ageing.

Suggested, not actually "recommended", as I don't have personal experience with him. But please report back what you learn.

From what my Dad was told, these were not under ground. They were in a cave wrapped in some sort of cloth. So the patina would have to be from the air not water or ground. As far as I'm aware. And yes, suggested. Thank you.

I imagine a few different tests will be needed. I imagine even then there is no way to be 100% unless every chain of custody since discovery was documented.... I argue a lot of ancient items found don't have that lol.

Important things have been found in caves, but ever since the Dead Sea Scrolls, "wrapped in a cloth in a cave" has also been offered as a "plausible" explanation for objects of questionable origin.

Yahh, ! .... like jumping out of a perfectly good aircraft.....and then doing it again !!:woot:

& yes , we are not reddit , or any other social media , and we welcome you back with open arms...and high spirited discussion !;);)

I for one , find that your demeanor has mellowed since your last go around here , and for the most part has fostered a better dialogue ..! :)

The way your items came to be in your fathers possession has always bothered me personally....... but...... they are yours now , and I'm kinda hoping that you find out one way or another , what they really are !

As for your kid....you do the best you can to raise her , pass on good moral values , occasionally ice cream , and help her navigate and find her place ...in our very demanding modern times !!
It's the best a Dad can do !!:happy:

Ps.... I don't ever want to meet up with you in the ' Cage'...... :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::eek::eek:

You beat me to it.;) It has become one of those fakes sellers stories.
The problem is, even if they are true, stories are not proof of anything. But as 2many said, this is one of the stories used.
Metals certainly patinate due to chemicals that occur naturally in the air. They can also corrode.

From Afghanistan via Bangkok is never a good sign. Thailand is well known for many types of metal reproductions.

I can imagine. At the very least the Dead Sea Scrolls were a lesson to always look deeper.

Bro I have no desire to ever fight anyone in a cage.... but I'll spot ya anytime in the gym. I appriciate the motivating words on my growth as a person . It means a lot.
