Featured Imari pattern 19th C. Cup and saucer

Went on a voyage in Derbyshire today. Managed to fit Matlock, Buxton and Bakewell in. I unearthed this cup and saucer in Matlock. My initial thoughts were RCD until I saw the base of cup and saucer. I am now thinking possibly Coalport because of the style of the numerals on the saucer and also the decor pattern..I have found examples of Coalport with very similar dark blue and gold leaves. I could of course be completely wrong but I'd be surprised if it wasn't 19th C. Staffordshire.

I don't think Coalport, but I could be wrong. Shape of the cup is different (bottom part) from the usual. Staffordshire likely. Now I want a Bakewell tart!

I recently dipped my toes into the old English Imari world. I was surprised at how many patterns there are. All variations on the same thing but all different. My lot was mostly RCD with some lesser stuff for good measure.

 

Yes it was a very popular style and although there is a lot of attractive stuff out there, a lot of it is worth next to nothing. Even the later RCD stuff can fetch only small amounts. Market is flooded.

 

Unusual one. The shape is not an early one so you’re looking at 1850 or later. Hand painted but not the highest quality so not a top factory. Will check books when I get chance - probably Thursday.

 

Thanks. The the pronounced square foot rim on the cup is unusual too.

 

I think it may be Continental. C1880 but can’t guarantee that.
