Jeweller (young girl) was dismissive, didnt know the metal, (probably base she thought) but thought that stone was glass.

Probably not even a "jeweler" then, but just a shop clerk. ;)

Messilane is probably right and so are you.

But not the time to take issue with the owner (who was present but not involved) who is closing the shop for good in two weeks. She reopened the shop some years ago following an incident when a robber stabbed her husband, fatally, and she kept it going as a memory to him. She's a lovely lady and the young assistant may have been right, may have been wrong, but it was the wrong time to take issue with her for only looking briefly at the ring

I see a caliper in the cartouche and a solder joint to the right of it

The stamp being on the outside probably indicates a rookie maker

The ring is quite similar to an old one I have here that was marketed to hobbyists in the '50s. This one is 14K white gold. It looks like green on yours in the first pic. If so, it would not likely be gold or silver.

Bear, I've looked and looked at the triangular stamp through a lens and I cant see that it is the same as the Zimbabwe hallmark (should have posted that before, sorry)

No problem, just wanted to make sure you'd seen it. :)

The green was a bit of thread from the cleaning cloth, hadn't realised it was there until you pointed it out. The metal is non magnetic, was slightly blackish before cleaning and has shined up similar to silver.

In the cartouche the thing I almost see is a crown with a J under.

Re the hobbyists rings, were these empty blanks for them to insert stones of choice?
