I completely forgot I owned this cup and saucer. I turned the house upside down before looking a couple of cups I have sold on eBay and came across them. They appear to be hand painted and signed. Looks like 'Torst' but I can't make it out. The cup and saucer both have an unusual mark on the base too which looks like a piece of brass inserted into the porcelain. The cup is quite small, about the size of an espresso cup. Sadly the cup has a hairline down the side.

It looks like it is raising its little arms and shouting "yay!!!".:playful:

Der Liebling means the sweetheart or darling. To me that applies to the girl hugging her cat. The scene on this cup looks like it is part of a classical or allegorical painting.

It reminds me of the robot on the moon that sweeps up after Wallace and grommit in A Grand Day Out. 'More Cheese Grommit?'

Maybe Der Liebling is the name of the scene but not found a reference so far other than link above.

I thought this type of mark was made by a decorating company. The square glob of gold paint was used to hide the original maker of the blank. The decorator may have added the image and all the gold flourishes. The cup & saucer looks very professionally done. It's beautiful.

Ah okay thanks. That's interesting to know.. I never sold it as I could never figure out what I was actually selling. Part of me wants to keep it but yuu can't keep everything. Mixed feelings

Yes, that is what I think as well. Nice set but any crack will affect value. And as I haven't sold anything for yonks, I have no idea what the market is for this stuff now.

Yes that's it exactly. If I did list it I wouldn't know if I was getting a good price or not. That said it only cost £3 so maybe I should just throw caution to the wind and be happy with whatever I get. As you say though, damaged stuff doesn't sell well, least of all teacups.

If only I could post photos, I'd upload a photo of a fairy garden with handmade items I made in a beautiful vintage teacup/saucer I bought on ebay. That's what I would use your set for, because a little damage wouldn't matter.

Don't bother asking about the photo thing, because I have no answer. Take my word for it, it's cute.

I could, but you'd not be able to answer. Trust me. But I do appreciate the offer.

A friend of mine would use a cup/saucer like this to plant miniature orchids.
