Hello to old and new friends,
It has been a while since I purchased something and feel good about it, I have always valued all opinions on antiquers.

Here is a double tier eighteen pedal ice crack bowl I hope is authentic from Song. It is 9” wide by 3” tall.

Along with photos I am attaching a link to the only item that resembles my bowl I could find online. I personally have never seen double layer floral bowl anywhere, new or old.

link to similar bowl; https://jerome-museum.blogspot.com/2021/08/eleven-petal plate-guan-kiln-ware-southern-song-dynasty.html

That's all kinds of gorgeous: the colour, the crackle, the form. I don't have a clue whether it's Song or not (I am easily confused with Asian wares) but I would have bought it in a heart beat!

Oh, that crystalline glaze! That's about 2 feet deep! I know absolutely nothing about Chinese or Japanese ceramics but this I would have wanted if I could afford it. No crackle, the bits in that glaze overlap and draw your gaze right in. You have an excellent eye @mmarco102.

Absolutely beautiful piece. 960-1276?? That would be amazing. Have you emailed the person on the page you linked?

This fella is an expert in Asian ceramics and will evaluate your piece for $15. He sends a video with an appraisal and talks about his opinion of your object. https://bidamount.com/chinese-antiques-identification-assistant-inquiry-service

It’s beautiful and clearly very well made. Do you see signs of age in person? It looks brand new in the photos almost because it’s so perfect. I hope it’s old for your sake.

As a general warning to folks, be cautious of old looking collector and dealer stickers.I’ve bought Chinese pieces at auction that have fake antique stickers. Since then I’ve seen more of them popping up. They copy the stickers of famous old dealers and collectors and give them an old looking patina. They also do generic inventory looking stickers.

    Absolutely.
Song dynasty celadon ware usually looks perfect, which makes it difficult to date for a non-expert.
My inclination is that this is the real deal, but I am no expert on Song celadon, I just love it.

Thanks Dagger, yes I have already sent a request to Peter Combs. I have used him twice before with good results.

Indeed, to my novice eyes it shows age, but I have to agree very good condition to have those years, but as AJ says, they often are. I might add very heavy for its size as well. The photos I posted were directly from the auction house as I thought they were great. However here are a few I took in outside direct sunlight which might show the bottom clearer. I also posting a photo of the side angled to reflect the sky which will show the glaze condition. Please opine.

PS, I never pay attention to stickers as a decision maker ;)

I might add that all 3 of those photos were taken outside, same locate and time with no alterations by me but the coloration on all three are different. Damn those Apple phones anyway… ;(

Killer piece! Out of my wheelhouse of expertise. Did find this similar glazed bowl with museum stickers.... for what it is worth. These could very well be the fake provenance stickers as discussed above.

... and this one. Less similar overall but with a similar glaze.

Thanks Brad, I appreciate your input & links. Yes the first one is similar in glaze. A bit over thought in design imo. My concerns would be it appears on screen to be very bluish(that could be the photo or my monitor), and with no foot the spur marks on the bottom appear rather close to the sidewall. Just 5” and 5 spurs seems overkill, but by no means am I properly informed. Not concluding, just thinking out loud. Thanks again.

I have noticed that issue on Song pieces specifically on several occasions. I’m not well versed enough to tell when that’s good because the condition is so great or bad because they are fake and that’s why the condition is so good. The fact that Marco got this piece from an auction that had good online photos posted would make me more dubious about its authenticity. Authentic Song celadons don’t slip through the cracks of auctions with online presence cheaply, no matter how podunk the auction house. Unless Marco really paid up for it. If it crossed the block at under 500 I’d be pretty nervous. I’d be nervous at over 500 too but more so under 500. I’d think this would be worth several thousands at the very least if authentic and possibly quite a bit more. There are people whose job it is to scour the web for Chinese objects all day and doubtful they’d miss this with the great photos the auction house posted. Just my humble, grain of salt opinion. I very much hope it’s real (really old) and that Marco scored.
