Hi there, I'm looking for information on this antique picture frame. It is made from brass and is 9" by 7". The name on the back is the same name under the photo, Sarah Holt. Where do you think this would have been made and when? Is there a name for this type of brass work?

Never seen anything like it but I dearly love it.Looks like something a Romanian or Scandinavian Icon would be in.

1860s photograph. But it says more than "Sarah Holt" on the back. What else is written there? And is there a photographers name on the card?

It is very hard to read the other name on the back, looks like Wheeles View attachment 434078 View attachment 434079 , but not sure. I was able to get the back off, it was pretty stuck. The card shows her maiden name, Heslin. Back of the card has some numbers. I was hoping there was a mark on the inside of the frame but nothing. Thank you for your input.

Sarah Jane Heslin Holt. b. Stalybridge, Greater Manchester, England 1/22/1849. d. 1/2/1933. Buried Elmwood, Pierce County, Wisconsin. She may well have descendants in the area still.

Thank you for finding all that info about the photo. It's very possible the frame was made in England.

Doesn't look English to my eye but not an area I'm knowledgable about.

We have been to so many estate sales where sellers simply don't care (present company in this thread excluded). I have a family Bible containing genealogy data back to the 1700s. It was at an estate sale for 10 dollars. People today simply become self absorbed.

My husband didn't know it was donated. Would like to get the frame and picture as the picture has been in that frame since 1860. But.

At least you have the picture scans in the interim! That would have been terrible if completely lost! :(

Folks are dumping their family history at garage sales & then buying memberships in Ancestry.com-way to go Homo sapiens !
