Featured Floral embroidery

Another bargain from the car boot this morning. Some kind of old embroidery panel. Looks Indian to me maybe? Or maybe it was made here by Asian immigrants. The framer is based in Manchester BW Smith of Gorton, so it looks like it has been hanging around here for a lot of it's life. There is the odd bit of debris floating about inside but wouldn't like to take the back off because all the backing paper would just disintegrate. The frame is ~30cm x 60cm

 

Very pretty. Looks like it could be part of a Manila shawl. Manila shawls were mostly made in Canton, China, but traded through Manila, Philippines.

That's an interesting thought. I don't recall seeing a mantón de Manila embroidered with lilies before and one might expect the design to be a bit denser but certainly possible. Embroidery and fabric look right.

Yes. It doesn't look like typical embroidery fabric, so I can well imagine it being taken from somewhere else.
