Hello, this small painting appears to be a watercolor (or similar type of paint) on porcelain.

could you please help me estimate the age and maybe where it is from?

    it is signed “Gerard”.

the visible portion of the oval portrait is about 2” long.

    the frame is probably newer.

    thanks!

Yours is a modern decorative piece with a painted interpretation a Georgian portrait of an aristocratic lady. Per the label, it was marketed by Blenko Handcraft. You should be able to date the label with the examples here.

Thanks! I thought that it looked liek a newer version of an old pin, maybe for tourism.

Have to suspect that label was somehow transferred to the easel - wouldn't think this item has anything to do with Blenko...

Other frames from the HB Group are thought to be a wood-resin mix.

The frame is rather overbearing and 'resiny' for such a delicate portrait. I would find her a new frame.

Hard to tell what material this is from the photos being further away and a bit dark. It doesn't look the quality of most painted porcelain of the late 19th/early 20th c, which would be painted with enamels. It looks more to me like watercolor on ivory, but i would need a closer look to tell.

Taking it apart might help you determine the material and possibly the maker. If porcelain from a factory, it might have a mark on the reverse.

The lady looks like possibly an attempt at Georgina, Duchess of Devonshire. Everyone loved her Big Hat look.

The identification as Marie Antoinette is questionable until the primary portrait can be found. (I googled around the internet and couldn't find it.)

I also took it out of the frame, and it feels like a hard, thin, brittle kind of paper or material! DF382AAE-BBBE-42CB-9070-7F5ED8EC3DCD.jpeg It wasn’t dated.
