10.jpg 21.jpg 20.jpg Hello everyone, i am just new to this forum and am pleased to be here. I have this large chinese seal but the material is unknown to me. And that's why i want to ask any opinion here. It is not plastic but it is cast some how and looks a bit like Faience. Any feedback is welcom.

Resin to my eyes. Some pieces can be made with a mix of stone powder in the medium.

Another vote for resin. Stone powder, mixed with a dye and resin.

consider it done have changed the photo's. But it has a sharp break on some damaged spots and looks like baked clay. On ebay they sell these as turquoise stone seals.

Hunt, do you see all those little blobs inside and on the lines of the decoration? That is often a sign of resin.
Another sign is the rough finish of the dragon and the greyish shading in the crevices of the cloud scrolls etc.

yes but is this seal good quality? It is nicely cast but has some imperfections. I have bought 3 all are different, but i am a sucker for chinese imperial seals. Hahaaha

It is nice enough. It is not a collector's item, but people buy these for their decorative value.
It is not an imperial seal, but it has the same shape, so I can see how it reminded you of one.

i have done the hot needle test, no result no smell or melting???

Please don't do the hot needle test on anything again, it is damaging and it can go terribly wrong, on celluloid for instance.
Besides, you can't sell it if it is damaged. At least not for a reasonable price.

It could be polystone, a polyester resin with stone mixed in.

I know, because there was no result, but something to consider in future. You can always ask here for an ID of the material, we can usually work it out.:)

Mostly Chinese sellers, and they have been doing it ever since they began to sell on ebay etc. They won't stop, because Western legislation about misrepresentation can't do anything in China.
