I got these two Gorham serving pieces for $5 each. Score!

And then my question is about this separate butter knife: marked WH & S and then two more marks. Just under 8" long.

    Thank you for any comments.

The butter knife is English electroplate, made by the Sheffield company William Hutton & Sons. The 2 poorly defined letters on the right of the mark are B P for Britannia Plate (i.e. electroplated Britannia metal, where Britannia metal is a base metal alloy akin to nickel silver).

    Fish knives aren’t usually curved/rounded.

The Gorham is Chantilly, their most popular pattern.

Mine are. But this one has a bend in it, which is what butter knives often have.

Mine aren’t. None of mine are.

Edit. I mean, this looks like the blade is actually
convex as if for carving out butter.

Yours may not be, and that is fine, but you can't say "none of them are" if several people here have rounded fish knives with a curved top.

I already edited my answer to clarify I didn’t mean ALL fish knives but all that I own.

And that I didn’t mean the blade curving up but it being convex.

    Edited for spelling mistakes.

Edit. Not that it makes much of a difference in price for this item.

I have some pairs of 100 plus minus years old fish knives I bought for a song years ago when no one was buying them. I don’t ever use them, just admire.

It is one of those superfluous but fun 19th century inventions. I thought them fun, but they were frowned upon by my (posh) elderly relatives who thought the concept too bourgeois.:hilarious:
