I visited Harrogate, Ripon and Knaresborough today. I am starting to get weary. Last stop at Knaresborough, they had an antiques shop in one of the old waiting rooms. Very cool way to spend waiting for a train.

There was a paper weight that I discounted and I'm now wondering if I should have bought it. Do I need to get the first train back to Knaresborough in the morning?

I can tell you want to be there. No one pound bargains though I'm afraid.

Beautiful Millefiori paperweight. I would have bought it if the price was right. Is it signed?

I couldn't see any signature. I looked underneath and There was a piece of blue tac in the centre about 20mm in diameter. It was stuck fast so I left it. I think any signature would have been around the edge though. The asking price was £6 which is nothing if it is a good example. I wasn't sure if it was a Chinese copy though so I left it.

The center looks sloppy to me. I'd have bought it for that price, but no glassmaker in an earlier era would have let it out the door.

The bubbles put me off but then I realised that they are intentional. On another day I might have bought it but you have to put the brakes on some times. There is something about it I like though

Worth six quid all day long. The canes are decent.

Yes, I would have grabbed it at that price, even if it's not the best example of that technique.

Watching an episode of BBC's Antiques Road Trip. A few minutes ago, I see a copy of an Louis & François Moreau figurine being bought. A few days ago I mentioned that name in another thread as a possible maker. I had never heard of them before, and only found out about them thanks to the question that was posted, and my subsequent Google search trying to find an answer. So visiting this site, makes this type of shows even more interesting, as I get to recognize more items, styles and names that they show/mention.
But it also makes you recognize other things...

At this point of the show, one of the buyers arrives at a shop...
on a train station!! Indeed, the Knaresborough shop!
    I wonder if she will buy a paper-weight... :)

It's a small world but I wouldn't like to paint it.

Would have been funny if she (Izzie Balmer) had really bought a paper weight , but she went for a Victorian bamboo cake stand.

I'm already getting too old to paint the town red (or in any other colour). So painting the world is definitely out of the question

Well, coincidentally, I was watching an old Landscape Artist of the Year episode recently and they were in Knaresborough painting the viaduct.

If you're going to paint the world, you have to start somewhere ... :)
