Dug this up today. It looks pretty old, maybe antique by the condition of the oil. Looks like a hunting scene which was quite popular in Victorian times. It looks like it is signed Sale H which is a bit of an odd one. Or maybe S Ale? H

Although not as old as yours or even similar, there is a Zeinab Saleh in the Tate

Currently working my way through Saleh hits on find art info.. I've ruled out Raden Saleh on signature. I think Saleh is a good shout though as horses/hunting seem to be a popular subject in South Asian art.

It is a nice painting, Chin, a good piece. I also read Saleh.
And the style and the age.
I wouldn't mind a Raden Saleh on my wall, but my bank manager seems to object.
(Raden Saleh was not only a brilliant painter, but also a distant relative.)

I've just been having a delve. It was worth buying this just to discover Radens art. How did he get the tigers to pose for so long?

Yes, frame is certainly not that old. You can't rule out a custom one for that odd size, but those errant staples on top are usually remnants from factory stuff. I would take it apart to inspect.

I like the image though. I'm a sucker for miniatures.

    Name could also be Salehi.

I was thinking it's a painting on a plank slotted into a modern frame.

its a very odd shape to fit into a frame that wasnt original to the piece
