    hi folks

bought this quite nice hand painted vase from our village antiques shop today for not very much.

seems to be quite a good maker

large 10 inches with no damage

not really my kind of thing

wondering what the birds are supposed to be ?

might be an easy one for somebody

    any help or thoughts appreciated

I think they are supposed to be black swans, with that white on the wing. A bit short-necked for swans though.

As long as it isn't rhino horn, which these aren't, it should be OK.

I think geese of some sort.

The horns are probably water buffalo, a domestic species, so OK.

Could be an artistic expression of black swans......

But if you go by identifying features they are geese.........the upper bill bump grows into the skull....

It may be too much to expect decoration on a vase to be Audubon quality accuracy.

    blimey !

For almost 100 years, 1869 to 1956, Reinhold Schlegelmilch's initials, RS, appeared in various marks on fine German porcelain. Probably today's most desired pieces are those marked RS Prussia. Rare blanks with rare decorations, such as animals or portraits, of RS Prussia can bring $3,000-$8,000.

Curious mark: Poland China, Made in (German) Poland. What date would that be? Poor Poland, their borders were moved about so often.

It’s like when you get flowers of doubtful botanical accuracy on China.
