People will be along to comment for sure. There's some real experts on the site, but many are all over the world and some are asleep right now.

I fear for the future of education is that is what wbu is intended to convey.

komokwa The Truth is out there...!

We hear ya....but.....this site works on a process where folks chime in , even if it's only to say they think it's nice.....and there may be some back and forth until we settle in on what's what....to the best of our collective knowledge.

Sometimes....a thing is identified right out of the gate....... other times....it takes a village..... cuz we're not all here all the time.;)

It definitely looks like 1970s hand thrown Japanese studio pottery. Or at least in the Japanese style. There were a lot of Western potters that studied and imitated Japanese pottery in the 1950s through 1970s.

That signature is a doozy! It's a little bit different on each piece. If it's someone famous it could be sought after and bring big bucks. If it's someone unknown probably not.

Hopefully someone here can crack the case!

I've just had a look, it's a scrawled signature so I have no chance of translating it. You may get lucky with a native Japanese speaker being able to work it out. You probably want to post on a translation forum rather than antiques/pottery to get this one solved.

It is a nice, fairly modern set, to be used at home. I'm sure many of us used to have something similar, I did. It is not collectible, and the mark may be a personal mark, no actual script.

Oh, I saw quite a bit of this type of studio pottery back in the late 70s through the 80s. Some, like yours, is quite well done. Use it if you like it!
