Ah I am thinking it is not a right to Art OR food, but both. It's both.

Louvre is used to this, that's why major works are behind plexi now.

An old form of protest. The suffragettes chopped them limb from limb. Edge from Edge? Before that there was little to no security at the galleries.

Mona is probably only as famous as she is because someone once stole her...the press attention works both ways. :joyful:

Da Vinci is famous, but why is this his most famous work? Because it got stolen, hidden and then rediscovered to great, GREAT media attention. :D We love a good heist mystery.

    From the linked article:

"They then stand in front of the painting, saying: "What is more important? Art or the right to healthy and sustainable food?"

Is it callous for me to say, I'm not sure we can do without either one of these?

The freedom & joy of human expression and the sustenance to maintain the flesh vehicle that allows us to explore this plane of existence.I think they go hand in hand.

Then again, if they were throwing Campell's condensed ... best thing to do with it. Then you can at least recycle the can.

Thanks to loons like this my local museum had a traveling exhibit of Impressionist artist and they were all behind thick plexi. It ruined it for me.Some of the artist I had never seen in real life. Cant really appreciate the nuances of a painting under 6 inches of plexi.

In the 19th C, if some robber baron had wanted it, they might have been able to negotiate a deal. Back then, Raphael was considered superior to da Vinci and Michelangelo. Today it could not be done. It's a national treasure.

It's modern reputation probably did benefit from the theft and associated publicity. (Picasso was taken in for questioning.)
