I’m not sure what to make of this bear toy / figurine. It’s heavy, and feels solid, but damaged areas show that it’s either composition, or papier mache. The bear is flocked all over, and the eyes appear to be glass. It’s quite large, almost 15” long, and reminds me of pull toys from the late 1800’s but without wheels. Could this be an early papier mache animal toy, from Europe? I will love to know your thoughts as my research efforts have got me nowhere!

You don't believe the tag that says Norway?

Thanks! Funny, I never noticed the Nyform reference on the back of the tag. I don’t believe this to be correct, as the example you linked to on Ebay is similar, but different. Legs are in different positions, no teeth, etc.

    Ye
Yes, thanks, but I don’t see a match. Also, I believe Nyform figures are made from a plasticky tree resin, which this one does not appear to be.

Some more, better quality pics. I’m really leaning towards this guy being made of papier mache, antique, and likely German.

It does have the long neck of a polar bear, doesn’t it?
