Featured Tiny 1mm wide beads necklace

U.K. Charity shop buy, bit damaged but thought it was well made with the tiny beads. 17 inches long from apex to end of tassels. It’s hard to figure if the beads are plastic or glass, they are cool to touch but not cold. Looks to me like a lot of work involved. Is it NA, tourist ware? Thanks for any help.

 

It is not NA, it is AD, as in Art Deco! Great find, House.

 

They are "seed beads", woven on a simple loom -


One thing you can see in your beads is the irregular shapes of the individual beads. This is typical of earlier seed beads made in Italy and Bohemia / Czechoslovakia. By the mid 20th century, Japanese companies began making seed beads, and developed techniques to create much more uniform beads.

I did spot the bead irregularities in the shop but had no idea that meant they were earlier than mid 20th. Thankyou very much.
It only cost me £1.99 so a bargain in that I’ve learned something as well as having a nice item.

 

The Native American pieces influenced American Deco to some extent, but bead loom pieces were done by all and sundry in the 60s and into the 70s. I agree this one is older.

 

Late to this. Scrummy art deco beaded sautoir necklace. I’ve a couple of these, bought from eejits who’d no clue.

 

Now to find one with custard glass beads!

I think when I’m looking through tons of of tat, it’s just because pieces that are labour intensive and well made do stand out. I really did think this was likely to be NA though. So yes an eedjit with a clue.

The design at the bottom of the necklace looks like the Chinese symbol for "double happiness".

 

It does! Thanks. I’m going to look after it, I think I could use one of the tassels second from left to repair the main body and split the remaining beads to make two shorter tassels second from the left and right that will balance it out.
