Pretty sure they aren’t plastic. Maybe glass.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

@Htburden - Welcome! On the back of the round part of the clasp, it does look like someone might have tried to write something there, but I couldn't make it out...maybe if you put a loupe and different lighting, it might show better, in your hand......Sorry, I posted the wrong image first.... the one below NOW is what I saw..............

Glad to hear the plan is to keep. Its real value is in its having been your grandmothers. To be worn without the whole thing coming unraveled it will have to be mended or stabilized. Not sure it's really a job for a jeweller, you would have to ask. More of a crochet project, from what I can see.

Agree. Glass with a "pearly" coating.
    I'm with @Bronwen , 1950s or so.

If you know someone who is handy with a needle and thread, ask them to repair it for you. All you need is a fine beading needle that can pass through the beadholes and nimble fingers with experience with needlework.

The rest of the thread is probably a bit worn as well, but if your wife won't wear it that doesn't matter. This way you will still have the bracelet to remember your Nan. You could even frame it in a small shadowbox, against a dark background.

If they are fake, I think my Mother could repair them. If they were real, I think she would have them restrung.

I am thinking you are right, but if they were glass, would they be a more consistent size and shape?

The layer of the coating may not be consistent, which would make them look somewhat irregular.
I have Czech faux pearl beads like that, very nice quality, and the irregularities add to the charm.

When did she pass away, she could have bought or received them up until then.

She died in the 1990s. But my grand father died in 1970s. So I am pretty sure it was before that.
