Sadly, I did not keep a record of where I encountered this image:

komokwa The Truth is out there...!

    August 10.jpg

..A Circassian Lady, London. Published August 10, 1778 by Victor Marie Picot, No. 471, Strand. British Museum. "Bust of a young woman in an oval in profile to left, looking slightly down, wearing a gown with a 'v' neck, gathered at the shoulder with a jewel, and a turban made of a fringed veil fixed with a jewelled band over wavy hair drawn back."

darn close........maybe the siggy falling off her back on yours could be a clue !!

I won this beautiful cameo that I posted about a few weeks ago. She was a Christmas present to myself and I can finally enjoy her! I am starting to realize that I really like cameos where the frame is also intricate and beautiful. To me this gold pendant looks like Art Nouveau style, so I'm guessing that would date this to the turn of the 20th Century. There is a lever safety catch on it too, which I believe would suggest that date too. That is a novice's guess so any expert insight would be appreciated. @Bronwen - you were right, she is slightly more orange than the auction photos showed, which I love!

It certainly is lovely and the setting compliments it beautifully. What a nice Christmas present!

Here are a few eBay items with signatures, if anyone is interested to add to there signature examples or their collections:

    Dolcini:

Nice double cameo with both cameos signed "Dol". Needs some cleanup.

    Dolcini and Michelini:
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/225902161133
Dolcini oversigned on top of Michelini, like another of my cameos we discussed on this thread. Ear pendants missing the earwires- possibly the "night" part of night and day earrings. The signatures are clearly visible on the right ear pendant. s-l1600 (5).jpg
    s-l1600 (6).jpg

    Durasco:
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/223762456380
Another carver we have discussed, but for which there is very little info. It has a beautiful deep blue enamel frame and I think depicts the meeting of infants Jesus and St. John the Baptist. there is some additional writing beneath Durasco, but I can't make it out.
    s-l1600 (7).jpg s-l1600 (8).jpg

    Tignani:
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/295706250225
This cameo is doubly signed by Tignani, but the writing is a bit shaky. I love the serene carving and the frame. It is unusual to have closed eyes on a cameo other than Nyx.

That type of early safety clasp, which I always characterize as 'fiddly' for the way they operate & the way some of them won't stay closed, puts it a little farther into the 20th than the turn of the century.

A lovely coral Flora. The sensibility is art nouveau. Cameos aren't always au courant. A very merry Christmas to you!

Worse than that. The top one, undoubtedly his hand, is misspelled, Tigani. Very strange rendering of Ceres/Demeter. A bit experimental.

The other figure who generally has lowered lids is Cleopatra, as the venom is overcoming her. I could see the Tignani Ceres as having downcast eyes rather than ones that are completely closed. Sorrowing for her lost daughter?

You are right! I totally missed that. I thought it was interesting that some of the letters were formed slightly differently differently between the 2 signatures. I was wondering if it was supposed to be Persephone with closed eyes, but with only wheat sheaves, that didn't seem to make sense.

Have added them to my records, but will pass on all three. That is the most butch Psyche I have ever seen!

She's really lovely! Great color. I would wear this easily, but I also love a good Art Nouveau look. She does look early 20th c to me.

Added. Great finds! If they weren't so highly priced, I would think about making those earrings wearable. I love a bit of enamel work. That Dolcini brooch has the scallops and extra flamboyant frame as mine does, so he knew the ladies wanted bling with their muses I guess! I am working on a comedy project right now so I guess I'll keep mine close... :D

SOMEday I'll get a Medusa cameo, I swear. But I guess all the women say that as she is quite popular. If the Met wants me to hold this Pistrucci one for them, I would...

They have moved her from the main section of European Sculpture & Decorative Arts across the main hall to the English rooms, where she is with the Wedgwood & a whole plexiglass wall of teapots.

I've not been to the Met in over a decade and I miss it. Cameos will definitely be on my to-see list when I return!
