Featured Wood and lacquer desk tidy

    Well I think that's what you'd call it? Not quite a writing desk as it has no flat bit to write on. I can't find anything the same on Google. The dog on the lid seems out of place and was possibly added later. Has anyone any more info on what it actually is? Cheers

    Pretty ! I wonder if its not more a dresser caddy ? I could see the main compartment being for collars and the others being for stays,watches,etc?

    It's a desk-caddy or desk-tidy/inkstand as you say. It's missing the pen-rest. And the inkwells.

    The "Fog" as you call it, is most likely nicotine staining. I've removed that stuff in the past using methylated spirits.

    I was referring to the dog but it was a typo lol I think pooch is hand painted

    Agree with komo that it looks like abalone, not MOP.
    Lovely item!

    I thought Komo said it was MOP. I'm confused now.

    In my experience, abalone is darker than MOP.

    I suspected MOP.....but a close look reveals abalone coloration....
    it needs to be cleaned ......
