I recently acquired this at an estate auction and paid less than $100. It's a Lane piece with a serial number 650130 (manufactured 03/10/1956). Style No. 685.
The top has seen better days, the UV has certainly taken a toll on the finish, and I've sanded the top down for refinishing. If the owner will allow me, I intend on taking it apart so I can sand and refinish the lower shelf in the same stain.
Is anyone aware of or know what stain finishes were popular in the mid-50s or might the style number of the piece have a cataloged or standard finish?

Easiest approach is a walnut rub-on oil varnish mix, by Howard’s, Minwax, Watco, etc. Match the color since there are lots of choices. I would not recommend taking apart, it is not necessary and risks damage.
