I think if it fits snuggly into the metal, then the metal was made for it. That isn't unusual. Glass companies would supply their bowls to the metal companies so they could add the frames. I'm afraid I don't know who made the glass but French opalescent glass is fairly popular. If the damage is not too great the $50 was a very reasonable price IMHO.

    Nice Find @scoutshouse!

However, Sarah, I would caution about making attributions and values based on this ad.

    First paragraph
Gorgeous Art Deco SABINO or EZAN 10" Bowl with Swimming Mermaids is 3" Tall and has small glass feet. I have tried to photograph several ways so that the high content of Gold can be see clearly in the glass.

    Last paragraph

The piece is not signed, although some pieces during that era were not signed. Therefore I am unable to definately identify it as Sabino, Ezan, Lalique or Etling. Regardless of the ultimate maker the piece is a very Lovely classic piece of Opalescent Glass from the 1930s.

Not trying to lecture anyone, ads like this just really frustrate me. :banghead:

I come across a lot of coloured glass ware that is made in France. Arcopal etc. Must be a big thing over there.
