I'm confused, which is nothing unusual really. Bought a job lot including this brooch, which has a tube hinge, C clasp and a Birmingham hallmark for 1992, unless there's something I'm missing? Some kind of reproduction perhaps?

Looks like it. A bit of a puzzle.
Could be, although reproductions usually have modern clasps.

Would the marks have been stamped later? Like someone got it marked in 1992 for authenticity? I thought I saw something like that, you're supposed to get it hallmarked if you want to sell it or something.

@RachelW I had no idea people did this, thank you, just googled it! Perhaps that's what happened, but seems a bit odd to go to all that trouble for a silver brooch, it's not particularly valuable

Yeah its most definitely odd, perhaps they're an extra conscientious seller? No idea, not sure if that's even the right tree to be barking up. Interesting for sure!

HERE is a similar one with the same marks (though its "S" is stamped sideways)... they are calling it "Victorian style".

THIS one doesn't have a discernable date letter and the seller believes it to be genuine Victorian.

And a KNJ LOCKET with a "u" from 1994 (seller mistakenly states 1995).

Unfortunately, none have any info on the mysterious KNJ but it seems to have been a jewellery maker who produced in the Victorian style, rather than a private owner having older unmarked things assayed/marked.
