seen one of these.......THIS SIZE before???? It's an 1883 GODEY'S LADY'S BOOK, which I think may have been more like a magazine....BUT the one I have (from an OLD house on B.I.) is only 25% of the FULL sized "book" or magazine, so this is 2 7/8" W X 4 1/4"H, and only 3/16" Thick.... maybe for a lady of the time to carry with her? I've seen a fair amount of old 'ephemera' but never one so small that you really need a magnifier to see the small print!!! Published by J.H. Haulenbeek & Co., Proprietors & Publishers, 1006 Chestnut St., Philadelphia.........the few fashion images are in both color (maybe 3 or 4) and B & W, and otherwise, black & white. It's pretty tender, but holding together!! These images are HIGHLY ENLARGED so it's somewhat readable!! Any input happily received, as ALWAYS!! Thank you!
I get a lot of pleasure from reading the ads in those old publications...almost invariably intriguing, one way or another. Thanks for the pics!
It basically seems to be like a salesman's sample version, how cool! I love looking through old magazines, especially 19th century. I have several leather bound compilations of late 1800s Country Life (UK version). Great reading for a rainy afternoon! Where/What is B.I.?
@evelyb30, I did not print the whole thing....just a few pages that I thought were interesting.....cover to cover, I counted as carefully as I could, came up with 55 total pages, only 3 'in color' illustrations, but either 8 or 9 B & W illustrations and one double page of music - "MARQUIS ET MARQUISE"....I'm rummaging around trying to see how I can reduce some of what I have! Had forgotten all about this little booklet in with a couple of other 'not as small' books!!!!
And @moreotherstuff, thank you for that link!! I'd not seen that information either!! Here's where I came first and hadn't gotten to the research part. Although, I could have missed it, but I didn't see info on this 'Mini' one!!!
