On a positive note-I did get to study some fascinating pics of Nepali Shaman's masks & like many of the more esoteric & less commercial tribal items-the asking prices are all over the map.
Navajo Turquoise,Apache Baskets,PNW Masks-forget abt sleeper deals, but there is some powerful stuff out there (not tourist),that seems affordable.
PS-Unless I'm looking at some expert copies !

AJ-I'd imagine you've discovered some amazing schools of overlooked ethno art in your life of study.

There are certainly areas that haven't had the attention they deserve.
Some of them even here in the Netherlands, where the majority of people don't care about their own traditions.:(
For instance, I've been trying to find a list of Hindeloopen folk painters and their signatures. It is near impossible. Even the Hindeloopen Museum asks for information from the public, they only know a few names and even fewer siggies.

Yes, there is. I have a small collection, with items from the 18th/19th century until ca 1975. Many are signed, but I only know the makers of two of mine.:(

Yes it is. Full of German tourists though, but that's the case in many of our coastal towns and villages.

I think we might have seen a Smithsonian or Natl' Geographic show re Holland by air that featured some fine footage of this area.
