    I'm curious about the little hand and forearm. Is there a child in the picture?

    Wow, good eyes! Now that you got me looking, why is there a “fish?” past the end of the hand? ( feel free to disparage my vision :) )

    From the hair, it does appear to be a woman. And Georgian or the equivalent period elsewhere. And... Ah! It's a little hand! I was puzzled. So perhaps taken from a portrait?

    Rather than a little hand, it seems more likely that the form on her shoulder is a tendril of hair, decorated with beads as in this portrait of Marie Antoinette -
