Picked this up today for a quid. I think it's but not 100% sure. If I polish it the cloth turns slightly black. It's about 42mm long. The writing translates to 'Healthy' in Persian. Interesting clasp in which a hollow keeper slides in and out to lock the pin in place.

Could be, but it is classic North African.;)
It is cast base metal, the silver ones have appliquéd calligraphy.
It is a trombone clasp, used a lot in Continental Europe and in North Africa.

When North African calligraphy jewellery is silver, it really looks like silver, as you can see on one of my Tunisian bracelets:

Another thing you see is that it is hollow, made of two layers, the inside layer is smooth.

I know, you were just asking in case it was. Always good to ask.:)

I sold a chunky base metal calligraphy bracelet on Etsy, about ten years ago. I think I sold it for 20 euro, so you have an idea.

You are too kind. I guess scrap value doesn't have much bearing on price.

I don't seem to have much luck selling any jewellery on eBay, be it base metal or silver. I'm not sure if it is due to people having not much money at present or if it is not the best platform to deal in it. A friend suggested it is a very niche market

You might want to give selling on Facebook a go. On the specialist groups.

Yes perhaps I should. Thanks for the pointer. I've also considered vinterior for my more ornamental items.

For souvenir stuff like this brooch, don't go too specialist, because they won't be interested. You could try second hand jewellery groups.

Sorry, when I said specialist I meant somewhere like jewellery groups. The distinction was to not mean general marketplace.

If you're using a polishing cloth, that's the jeweler's rouge in the cloth that turns it black.

Thanis for this. I was using bum fodder but I guess there is something in the base metal which also turns black when polished.
