It was a cray cray day....it rained in the a.m., so my flea market didn't set up right away. I drove to an estate sale, got some bargains. Got back to the flea by 10, got some more deals. Will photograph this week. Evelyb, I overpaid for some costume, don't feel bad. People were grabbing left and right, I ended up with some damaged pieces. Then after I paid for the costume, sterling comes out for $2-$5 a pop. More grabbing...sigh.

The thing that intirgued me most was this $2 watch. Nobody was grabbing it, so I did. I researched it and will take it to my watch guys. My guess on this was it was originally a wristwatch, then, using a Keystone case, it was converted to a pendant watch. I refer to the side winding.

 

They are pretty, the shop missed the tiny 14k on the clasp, I hardly ever find anything good there so was a nice surprise.

 

They miss the clasp markings a lot. I just got a broken strand of faux pearls yesterday with a 14k clasp.

I could not find the old thread about things we might find at sales so I am just putting this here. These are not mine, but a seller I know. I never heard of these but perhaps this is something you all might see.

I'd be thinking a pendant watch. Ladies often wore them on chains or pins. If it was a lognette watch it wouldn't need to be upside-down like a nurse's watch.

 

Those would NOT skate through here at the Ill Will. Too many know the Versace logo. Never hurts to keep your eyes peeled though; I've found Tiffany crystal before.

The only thing is, aren't pendant watches top-winding?

 

Ive got a set of Tiffany crystal candlesticks around here somewhere. Im sure I posted about them. They are on the finds thread page 1089 ,I cant believe i found it ! I love the Versace ones !

 

No reason they'd have to be, especially anything made post-WWI when wristwatches became the fashion item.

 

Picked this up the other day for $6.00 at the thrift store. Will post on PGP with more pics and questions. Also have some more art finds for the art board today.

Today's acquisition: my new doorstop! A 19th century brass slug/box iron.
No marks other than the number eight on the back lift door. Unfortunately, slug not included.

 

I have 4 pendant watches of various styles; 3 have the winding stem at 3 o'clock, only 1 with it at 12.

 

Thankfully an empty fuse; otherwise one slammed door and there would have been no house.

 

funny just how beautiful it is , in it's precision & color !!

 

It's too bad they wasted so much effort on something designed to make humans go BOOM instead of the opposite.

 

Two great finds this week. Both completely different.

The first turned up on eBay and is a Creamware tile relief moulded with a portrait of John Milton . Behind him is a lyre with a serpent and apple. The lyre represents the lyric and the serpent and apple Paradise Lost. The tile is very rare and dates to c1775

The second find is a fabulous diorama made by David Swift - a talented artist who has made pieces for the V&A Museum of Childhood and the Tokyo Contemporary Toys museum. This turned up at a local auction with a few bits of rubbish.
