So got this thing for $5 today just out of curiosity.
Any idea what this is and how old?
Can't figure out what is actually inscribed on it and in what language.
The cup is about 7.5 inch high. No hallmarks.

German. And it appears to be dated. Does this coat of arms match? German Empire. 1889–1918.

Yes, German, schiessen is shooting. Yours has the St Hubert symbol, Hubert is the patron saint of hunters.
In this case they preferred a skull with a cross to the living deer with a cross between the antlers, which goes against the principle of the vision of St Hubert.

    Thanks everyone.
Since it is from 1898 may actually worth more than $5 I paid for it.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

It may list a date range: 7-14 August in 1898.

That's certainly what it looks like. And "3" would be third place?

I was thinking that might be it. OR it was the 3rd annual shooting competition or something like that. I didn't try to make out the abbreviation after the 3. But seems that would give the answer.

Maybe worn silverplate? No marks on the bottom?

Or more likely "white metal" in this case. Shooting clubs were a big thing in Germany and Austria. I've seen the guns turn up here, but not the trophies. American GIs found the fancy guns and hauled them home as WWII souvenirs.
