What company does A.D.S. stand for on antique canvases?

Hi everyone. I've seen these initials on some 1800s canvases and was wondering what company it stands for and where were/are they located? I appreciate it. I have searched but found nothing.

we've seen that hardware here before....but I can't think of the thread....
so many prints & paintings here...

 

Just curious... Where did you find that? And what were you told about it? Whatever was on the canvas originally appears to have been overpainted at some point.

Hi Mikah.The letters A D S which in your first post you said you "had seen on some 1800s canvases " I beleive it may have confused forumers believing the letters to be printed on the canvas itself.On seeing the new picture of the back of the painting the initials are actually on the metal stretcher keys.The initials refer to Aaron Draper Shattuck the inventor and patent holder of the stretcher keys,first patented in 1883.
