Featured Chinese Pottery

I need help from the antiques savvy public to identify this piece of pottery. I believe it is Chinese and know it was received as a gift doing business in Taiwan circa 1995, age and origin unknown.

 

I think you'll need a hands-on expert to look at that. Looks like it wants to be neolithic.

 

You don't provide measurements, but it looks similar to a type of 2-handled cup recovered from neolithic sites in China. Here is an example at the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology at the University of New Mexico -

As moreotherstuff says, you may need to find a specialist in ancient Chinese pottery to confirm an identification.

 

There is a process called thermoluminescence that reputedly can tell when a ceramic was last fired. Don't know where you'd find someone to do that, and I understand it takes a fairly significant sample to test.

 

I am always highly suspicious of anything the comes out of China purporting to be an antiquity. They are so very good at faking them.

I know nothing...save for the design being similar to the eye..

 

According to JC it was received as a gift doing business in Taiwan circa 1995.
So while the archaelogical site was in China, this made it's way to Taiwan, presumably with the 1949 and early 1950s wave of mainland immigrants.
1995 is before the large scale faking of Chinese antiquities in the Peoples Republic, a practice Taiwan is not known for anyway.
