Picked this up today. It's a brass desk canon with a crest on it. The wheels are wood and the pins holding the barrel clamps down are copper. The barrel is 23cm long. This might give some indication of its age. Anyone recognise where the crest is from please? I would love to fill it with black powder and watch it go boom.

Ah it's the crest of United Kingdom. Maybe I should have know that..Dieu est Mon droit

Another purchase that has backfired on me. I always have been a loose cannon.

    Brass Escutcheon Pins
You can still buy them today if you want to repair the cannon hardware.

The base looks newer than the cannon barrel and may be just a marriage just for display/sale.

Maybe the seller was pleased to get shot of it........................ Sorry, couldn't resist it......................you can't keep me muzzled.............. does this count as a breech of the piece ?:p I am sorry, any more bad puns like this and I'll get fired.....................:(:nailbiting::rolleyes:

Lovely model. I think that the coat of arms are probably from an old army button, kings crown, so probably George V or VI. I think the carriage, which as Komo has said is back to front, probably belongs to it. I know people who make cannons like this still.
The keeper for the trunnions is a simple thing to make, and if you need brass pins, let me know the size as I probably have them laying around in the workshop. Be nice to see it repaired and pristine again.....in fact it will be a blast!..........................OK, I'm off.........

On closer inspection the barrel seems to be some sort of grey metal with brass coloured paint. :bucktooth:

The last photo seems to show this-"A touch hole / cannon vent that's been plugged. The hole provides external access of an ignition spark into the breech chamber of the barrel." Nice little piece.

You mean the brown splodge? I think it's just gloopy poop.

Yes,the copperish 'brown splodge',my second guess would've been 'gloopy poop'.
