    Hi everyone,

I was hoping someone may be able to help me solve a mystery. I found this ring in an old toolbox that neither me nor my wife can ever recall seeing. I tried to find the maker online (L&L? according to the stamp) to no avail. I brought it to a local jeweler and he verified that the stones are diamonds and that it is 14K gold. I'm not so much looking to sell it as much as I'm just trying to solve the mystery of where it came from. If I had a time period and region it may have originated, maybe I could figure out where it came from. Anyway, thanks for any guidance. Looking forward to hearing any thoughts.

Who's toolbox was it ? It looks 1950s to me,but Im no expert. Every now and then I unearth something in my house I have zero memory of . It happens when one loves the hunt !

It looks like the ring on the above Etsy link. The first ring was different in the shoulders. I found a couple of references by searching L&L cocktail ring. Both hits said the ring was 1990s and was valued at about $450, but I couldn't see the dates on those references.

When did you move into your house? Could the tool box be the former owner's? I'm mystified why anyone would put a nice piece of jewelry in a tool box, unless they were hiding it from someone. what a fun mystery!

All the time! One perk of a poor memory is that every box opened is a voyage of discovery all over again :hilarious:

I did that in lockdown. I honestly have things which I swear teleported in.

Wow! thanks for all the replies so far. I had seen the ring on Mira's but the hallmark was different which I thought was curious, but I honestly don't know how these things work. The ring on Etsy also appears the same, but why the price difference between the two (~$800)? I moved into the house in 2019, but it was built in 1919. It's my toolbox that I've had for about 10 years, so it's could've ended up there from my last house. Who knows? Possibly one of my grandmothers that just got misplaced through. I don't know. Again, thank you for all of the responses so far and I'll keep you posted as I did deeper into my family queries.

Somebody took off their ring to keep it from getting lost and put it in the proverbial "nice safe place" that safe even from the person who put it there. Takes about six months to never for "nice safe" items to resurface again.

A friend came over to help you with hammering and screwing.

She knew that jewelry and carpentry don't mix so she took off her ring and placed it in the box where she knew she could find it again and it would be safe from harm.
After a while you guys took a break , opened a bottle of wine , got hammered & went back to screwing around.

The ring was all but forgotten !

It's just one scenario I can think of............ :playful::playful::playful::playful::hungry:

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

This was a good discussion for me to finally read. My brother's wife passed away about 6 months ago (she was ill for several years, so it was not a surprise). Yesterday I was at his house with a gem tester, helping him to determine if some of her rings had real stones, or glass. But he couldn't find one of the rings. And he is a *big* collector of antique tools! He has toolboxes and cabinets galore. I'll mention to him that the ring possibly found its way into one of those boxes. (Although his wife never worked with the tools, to my knowledge.)

Anyway, an idea was generated -- thanks!
