    Found this little friend on ebay recently! First it looked very cute costume jewelry but a quick wipe shined it up remarkably. I'm wondering if it isn't unmarked gold. Does it look familiar to anyone?

    The seller listed it as gold-plated but there's no fading in the gold despite apparent wear (many surface scratches). I've seen a lot of untested gold listed as plated or gold tone because of missing hallmarks. The gems in the eyes are remarkably clear and sparkly, in a very fine hammer setting. The cut looks like round brilliant (not old cut) and they're slightly pink and irregular, though I don't have a good loupe just now to see very close. There's no hallmark or seam inside the band, but it does appear to have some marks from hand tooling. I'm thinking it might be rolled or low karat gold from the 1920s-1930s? It could very well be modern, but it really does seem to be gold, not brass, and being unmarked wouldn't fit contemporary standards. I tried looking up antique and vintage ouroboros rings and find relatively few in differing styles, unlike the typical look of the cute, flat-faced little victorian/edwardian snake rings

    The only way to know if it is gold, and if the stones are something other than glass, it to have it tested. Take it to a reputable jeweler. No one can give you an answer based on photos, especially since it has no marks.

    I'd say it's got a good chance, but there's no way to be entirely sure from a photo.

    Love it, p-r.:woot::woot::happy:
    I love snake rings in general, but especially nice oldies.
    Datewise I think you can subtract 100 years, more like 1830s or older imo.:)
    As the others said, the gold needs to be tested.
    The eyes could be replacements, could you post sharp photos of one or both stones?

    Oh my, that would really be a find! I'm not able to have it tested until I bring it to the appraiser in a few weeks, but I'm happy knowing it seems at least worth the effort.

    Here's the best I could do to photograph the eyes. I'm not a gem expert at all, but was going off the seemingly wide table and sharp edges in assuming they're round brilliant rather than oc. Hadn't occurred to me they might be replacements, but that tracks as a possibility!

    Yes, the wide table suggests more recent, so I would say replacements.
    The original eyes were probably not so deeply set, but these stones still work, esthetically speaking.

    Stones are replaced sometimes. Replacements, though not as prized commercially as originals, speak of a jewel that was worn and loved for a long time.:)

    snake01.jpg At first seeing the photos I thought maybe it was vermeil and more modern. But seeing it up close . . . very intriguing! I have a 9k snake ring myself so it is certainly possible! Very nice regardless. I love a snake, bug, or critter. :woot: Please keep us updated when you find out the details from a jeweler. Eyes sure look like diamonds in the up close pics.

    *edited to add pic of my snake ring I had on my computer. Nothing like yours but just shared for the heck of it.

    Snake rings are my go-to rings. If I can't think of which ring to wear, I wear a snake ring.;)
    So I can add some of my snake jewels, and I'm sure others can too. And kyra can fill a thread with critters of any kind.
