Featured Limoges enamel ? brooch need help in dating

Hi folks,

I came across this Limoges brooch and bought it, although it was way beyond my usual spending limit, as it is very rare to find such thing here. I did some online research and came to the conclusion that this is:
- handmade Limoges enamel brooch
- probably from 1940s, judging by the found info online and also by logic,
- on ceramic base
- in brass setting
- made and signed by one of the artists working for Limoges. He does not seem to be a known artist, although the work seems to me very exquisite and precise.
- it is quite large, about 5,5 cm diameter.

I can be totally wrong, though, it is the first time I come across a known French piece, very unfamiliar to me. Therefore I would like to hear the advice of the experts, sage with French jewellery.

Kyra, I am not sure if Limoges artists made unique pieces with varying images, or there was a pattern that they followed in a number of pieces. I found information for both. .

 

Both... I'm more familiar with enamel on copper Limoges pieces, as I snatched some at great bargain prices, some artists are renowned, as Bonnaud, Bétourné, Funck and these signed their work. Other skillful enamelists didn't sign

 

Thank you, it is good to have this information. I found online some examples with very similar backs but not with similar front, and Google lens returned many images of enamel on metal while mine is definitely ceramic. Anyway, even if it was reoccurring pattern, it is quite nice and I am going to wear it.
You are lucky to have Limoges enamel on metal, from what I found out online, very exquisite and sought after pieces. I don't think there is a chance for me here but who knows?! I did not expect to find this brooch either but... voila!
As for artists' names, you know how it is. There are masters in painting for instance, who no one has heard of, and their works are still brilliant. Same here. Same everywhere.
Although Limoge by itself is a brand, it is indeed pity that many beautiful pieces are unsigned and thus with unknown authors.

It is made by several porcelain manufacturers near the city of Limoges, from which it took its name. So not actually a brand, although the style is often recognizable.

 

The design is deceptively simple, isn't it? Quite charming.

Thank you, Any, your opinion matters a lot! I did not know what it was, now as you said it, it obviously points to "triskelion", the symbol of progress and movement. Also the spiral frame is in line with it.

Limoges, IMO, is something like Gablonz/Jablonec (for glass) or Gzhel (for porcelain) - as these are from the former Eastern block, I know them better. They represent a cluster of manufacturers in a specific area, so good at their work that the whole area becomes known for it (we also have analogues but no one outside BG would know about them). In this sense it is a trademark or brand, recognisable worldwide (or nationally).

 

Indeed, rather symbolic, although at first glance it looks like simple floral design.

Actually, when I bought it, my hubby looked at it and said "hmmm, nothing special for this price, but if you like it..." The price is not high overall, it is just high for my personal limits.

To be honest, I liked it without going into much detail, besides it was written Limoges, which is very rare here, so I assumed it ought to be a quality piece. I thought it was hand painted porcelain at first, this is what Limoges is associated with in my mind. After some research I realised that Limoges is also famous with enamel, and that it can't be just painted.
