Its obvious the hand with knife is white and the hand restraining the hand with knife IS black.................

I know of no tradition that says Mary Magdalen was present at the birth of Jesus. Indeed, she may herself have been a child or not yet born at the time. Apart from the Magi (is Joseph in there somewhere?) the surrounding figures are shepherds & villagers. Of course women have also gathered there. I'm not seeing the correspondence between the Supper & the Adoration upon which you are basing your speculation about hidden messages.

The whole post was to discuss the actual painting NOT a print that has been photoshop to be politically correct and change the work so it leaves no room for questions. The print even shows THE FEET clearly. That part was damaged and there is no PICTURE that exists that con prove what it supposed to look like.
The truth is that all the disciples are white except for one and the hand RESTRAINING the hand with the knife is also black. Why that hand is in that particular position. I dont know but it's there.. you can see the white hand with knife then the black hand RESTRAINING and then the white forearm. If you follow black HAND UPWARDS you can also distinguish the elbow where arm bends.

It would seem that you are not open to discussion , if the opinions and ' facts ' as you see them.....are not parroted to mirror your own thoughts on this matter.

Also....... a discussion on religious icons...their motives and peculiarities under the guise of the Art Forum....... using spurious conclusions....is not a discussion, and not what Antiquers is all about..

    IMHO...

The feet of the apostles are also seen on the fresco itself. The only feet that aren't seen are those of Jesus, simply because a doorway was put in in that exact spot. Not only the feet were damaged, the entire fresco was so damaged that you couldn't see what it was supposed to look like.
Leonardo Da Vinci didn't use the proper fresco technique, which meant that after only 60 years no one could see what it looked like. Which is why no one objected when the door was put in, they couldn't see what he had painted anyway.

There have been countless restorations since. During the last restoration the restorers chose to use pale watercolours, to emphasize that it wasn't the original. This was a conscious decision, because there had been so many restorations already, and nothing about it was original Da Vinci.

However, a few years after Da Vinci finished his fresco, a copy was painted in oil on canvas, most probably in his own studio. It is thought that it was painted by his student Andrea Solari, and the heads of Jesus and John were probably by Leonardo Da Vinci himself.
This precious copy still exists, in Tongerlo Abbey in Belgium. It is considered one of the treasures of Belgium, along with The Lam of God by the van Eyck brothers, and The Descent from the Cross by Rubens, just to show how much the copy is valued.
This copy is closer to the original fresco than the restored fresco is, and two of the heads are even thought to be by the master himself. You can't get any closer to Da Vinci's original Last Supper than that.
    This is it:

Judas has a firm grasp on his bag, the other hand reaching for the bread. Peter is holding the knife, symbolic of what was to happen at Gethsemane. There is no black guy grabbing anyone's hand, and no doorway to cut off Jesus' feet.
So, all exactly as @bluumz described.

Now, back to Judas, Peter, the "stabbing" knife and the "the black guy".
This is the relevant detail of the heavily restored fresco:

    Leonardo_da_Vinci_(1452-1519)_-_The_Last_Supper_(1495-1498).jpg
The scene is the same as on the oil painting: Judas has a firm grasp on his bag, the other hand reaching for the bread. Peter is reaching over to John, and his right hand is holding the knife, symbolic of what was to happen at Gethsemane.
There is still no black guy grabbing anyone's hand.

What can be confusing is that Peter's hand (of the right hand holding the knife) is bent back, putting his wrist away from the light source.
The source of light in both fresco and oil painting is Jesus, for obvious symbolic reasons.
Peter's wrist is behind Judas' back, so it is overshadowed by Judas. So a wrist in the shadow, no black hand, and no black guy attached to the non-existent hand.
No stabbing motion either. With Peter's hand in this position, the only person he could possibly hurt is himself.

Jewish historians have debated this for centuries......

Here are their most notable conclusions !!!

    1. it's not supper, it's Brunch...invented by Jesus.

    2. those round breads are early Bagels.

    3. the girl to the left of Jesus is being consoled by Peter who has the only knife to cut the bagels, ..... for not ordering enuf cream cheese !

    4. Judas , holding a bagel in his right hand , is grabbing for another, cuz he's counted and there are not enuf bagels for everyone there.

    5. the 3 guys on the right are arguing that there is no Lox !, as Simon protests that it was not his turn to bring the fish.

    6. the 3 guys on the left are in awe as Jesus is about to perform a miracle and fill the empty plate in front of him with enuf lox for all !

    7. James , already sees the Lox....as his faith in Christ has given him foresight !!

    8. Philip doesn't yet see it, and Thomas is asking if he could get just one bagel .

    9. Jesus Christ is summoning up enuf lox for the whole gang......knowing if he does not..... a fight will break out and he could get stabbed !!!!

So, it's brunch, and the gang is about to get unruly if Christ can't feed them all with just one fish !

PS . There are no goblets on the table , so that water into wine story ....no basis in fact !!!

If anyone cares to argue that these findings , born out of reasonable and careful observations and readings of ancients texts , are not the most likely of scenarios ....

Well then........you've never been to a Jewish brunch. !!! ;)..:woot:....:playful::playful::playful:

Butbutbut, there's no bagels and lox set on the table! No plate with a spike for the bagels! No cream cheese spreader and no lox fork. How can you have a proper bagel brunch without the accoutrements? Mary, like any good Jewish mother, would have had catfits if she was there.
