Hi all, picked up this bunch of Birks Sterling flatware at VV today - I lucked out and got there as they were pulling out carts to stock the shelves. I found the one bag and quickly went through the carts and found the others. I didn't find any knives so maybe they were put out later? I had a 20% discount card so the grand total to me was $27 bucks, scrap weight is just over 1800g:)
I was so flipping excited, I couldn't get out of the store fast enough:) Once I paid I put them in my jeep and went back to the store. I found the little Nestles dish, the price tag was over the mark but I thought it looked right for sterling and it was 99cents so worth the gamble and it is sterling (106g).
I know you folks will understand my dancing for joy at these finds, this is why we keep doing what we do:)

thanks Aquitaine:) I'll drop by tomorrow and have a look, but truthfully I hate dealing with knives for scraping, I always cut myself multiple times, lol. Forks and spoons have no work/cutting involved:)

DINGDINGDING! And Birks no less. I once found a set of 12 butter knives at a church fundraiser. They had just opened the box when I scooped them, so the rest of the set was never there. I'd say the best odds are that the knives went walking at some point, but it's worth looking.

Oh my gosh! Feeling the rush of this major score! Can only imagine the racing heart and dilated pupils, seeing the first bag. ...That would have been my reaction, lol.

Well done finding the other pieces. Official Snoopy happy-dance in order.:singing:

One haul like that and we're back singing the praises of thrifting. Thanks for sharing and congratulations!

I do believe they are getting young people in the thrifts to price! No clue! All the knowledgeable have retired or died.

You would think that the Japanese could be more discerning. KitKats have absolutely no taste. Doesn't taste like chocolate at least and the stuff in the middle is what? I declare Yuck on KitKat bars.

I should have read the article first. I quote: Notable varieties include adzuki (red bean), beni imo (purple sweet potato), brown sugar syrup, matcha (green tea), and soy sauce. Different strokes.

Great Haul, cx! My heart would have about pounded out of my chest, and running out the door with your sterling before they could take it back! LOL.

I do not like Kit Kats either. A Nestle Crunch Bar is more my speed.

thanks for all the replies folks, I knew you all would understand the excitement:)

I agree, I don't think many staff in the store know sterling or value. They used to have staff that concentrated on jewelry, but I'm hearing that gold/fine jewelry is starting to turn up underpriced. This store has a huge problem with getting/keeping staff, so quite often they are understaffed and the ones that show up are overworked. I feel badly for them, but I've been able to buy more sterling there in the last 8 months than ever before.

yup, that pretty much describes me yesterday, lol

    lol, so very true:)

I quit going to Savers/Value Village because everything was priced so sky-high there was no point. I never even found gas money there. Maybe I should go back.

I'd even give the soy sauce one a shot. Those KitKat flavors turn up in Thailand too, along with others. What I want to know is why the Japanese get adzuki and matcha and we get those nasty white "chocolate" things? Eyyyuch.

Congrats!!! That nestle dish has to be desirable to a fan/collector I’d think.

My ex brought me back a variety box of Japanese Kit Kats when she was there recently. Some are pretty good. Here’s the ones I have left. She labeled them in English on the back if they didn’t have an obvious identifier on the front. 9940E3C9-1777-4661-8E93-CA0A0DB71991.jpeg 7EA0EDC2-FFC5-4204-95CF-C682C39DD8F7.jpeg

The adzuki bean one looks good to me, as do matcha, taro, sweet potato, etc. Not too sure about the wasabi.
