Featured Tiny heart box, what was it's purpose?

Hello all! Currently in N.Ireland visiting family and picked up this little cutie today for a few pounds. Hoping you can tell me what it's original use was? It is somewhat padded on the interior base, bevelled glass on the lid. The scene is Rostrevor, a location in N.I. How old could it be? I don't have a tape measure at hand but roughly 2"H x 1.5"W. Thank you!

 

I'd think it was a religious souvenir. The church, St. Mary's Star of the Sea, houses the bell of Brónach. The size is about right for a ring box. That type of metal filigree ware was popular in the 1960s but, given the photograph is b&w instead of color, I'd think it was a bit earlier in the 20th century. Of what material is the padding and the bottom? Both offer clues as to age and photographs of both would be helpful.

Thanks! I'm not actually sure that it is a photograph (apologies the pics are not great when I'm travelling, my ipad is taking them a bit blurry!). Hopefully these will help a bit until I get my Surface back for sharper images.

 

The photo looks early twentieth, an RPPC, especially with that font. Nice little sentimental ring box. I’ve seen some here.
