That is also a great feeling for sure! What a score those were. I probably wouldn’t have even bought them if I spotted them at a thrift. I haven’t had one of those in a while that I can think of. Well that’s not true. I bought a lot for $50. There was one piece I had a sneaking suspicion was going to be good but wasn’t sure how good at all. Ended up selling it for $600 or so. That was a surprise. What was more of a surprise was that most of the other stuff in the lot was also quite valuable. I’ll clear 2k or so on it after all is said and done. This was a big, very well known auction house that advertises heavily. Lot opened at $100 and was about to pass at a reduced opening bid of $50. Other than that I’ve had a lot of good sales lately but none that were super surprising.

My other favorite feeling is when I buy something on eBay and then turn around and sell it on eBay for way more than I bought it for. I really love that. You feel quite clever after completing one of those deals. Two weeks ago I won a lot for $100. Got it and listed it within the same week. Within 24hrs or so I sold it for around $500. Very satisfying.

Now that I gave it a Q-tip and spit rub, I did find a 14k mark on the inside of the bezel. There was a layer of white jewelry crud covering the marking. No makers mark though.

the chain is rather high quality as well and the marking appears to read BBB. Possibly Bailey, Banks & Biddle (fingers crossed) 32C22AA2-6B1F-45A2-9947-D029631B2540.jpeg 15314AA2-8098-4F65-9824-C1FDE139D541.jpeg 00B56D04-BE16-4A06-BB17-340252913843.jpeg

So back to the original topic of this thread, here are the earrings cleaned up a bit. No missing rhinestones, however there is one discolored (orange) one on the one faux pearl dangle

interestingly, it appears that the shepherd hooks are 14k, although I couldn’t find a mark, they test good. 28BFA360-5242-45FB-BFE7-310082B6EC90.jpeg 065D38BA-272B-4F26-9DC0-182D50071821.jpeg B447AB5E-86A3-4E76-86C6-857D14CD3176.jpeg A2445CBA-721E-4E98-AE76-67E7AC53D1E5.jpeg 546BD3CC-DFB9-485D-B843-A6C2A64F281A.jpeg

    Beautiful.
That is the old way, although generally older than Art Deco. Silver was used to emphasize the whiteness of the stones, but gold was used on the skin.
The design and the use of milgrain are very Art Deco though.

I did not find an 84 mark, though looking again at my photos I better take another look when I get home from work

The penny dropped.:shame: It is the SIL mark, which looked like 84 in the photo, to me at least.:eggface: Sorry about that. I'll delete it from my post so others won't get confused.

No problem. Thank you for input in your previous response. I know milgrain became really popular in the Art Deco style, but the technique dates to centuries before. Any chance you would consider an Edwardian label on these?

    Even pre-history.
Yes, could certainly be Edwardian. They loved that teardrop shape.
