Bergman bronzes

Hi

Absolute newbie here. I want to get into collecting cold-painted bronzes (perhaps just Bergman). Is there a good website where I can read up about it? I.e. current prices, rarity etc. I found a book on Amazon but it's from 2008 and almost £50.

Welcome Mike.

Once you know the title and author, which you do, you can shop around for a cheaper one.
But if almost £50 is too expensive for you, I wonder if Bergman bronzes won't be too expensive too. Even a small one can easily go into the thousands.

Probably the one you found (seems to be much the same price), but you might want to look up "Antique Vienna Bronzes", by Joseph Zobel. Always best to see if you can find a copy through your local library before buying, just to make sure it covers your interests.

I'm surprised there don't seem to be books dealing with Bergmann specifically.

 

AJ & MOS make good points.There's lots of used copies of almost any book online.Check sites like Thriftbooks,etc.

I blind-lucked into a vintage bronze this Winter, but generally the sellers know what they have and they're not cheap. Most of us can about afford the books!

 

maybe he's hoping to find them at boot sales..........

or is hoping for a web site to tell where to find those bronzes for 20 quid .....that no one else has discovered yet ???

 

These days the new books cost that much. On a good day. Finding them cheap is no secret. Boot sales/estate sales/jumble sales .. and pray. Anyone who knows what they have won't be letting it go cheap.

I rely on browsing thousands of images about them through listings, sometimes catching a bargain... No signed Bergman in my collection...yet!

 

That sounds like a good technique. Books would be good for information and history, not good for current pricing. @greenp22uk did ask "Is there a good website where I can read up about it?" and then mentioned the older book he found that was expensive. I notice that a lot of sites that are selling bronzes give some information on the history. But as you wrote, @kyratango , it's important to look at many!

 

Books go out of date before they're published, at least in regard to prices. Websites are a lot more dynamic.

 

Most of those websites give the same information, a book is much more in-depth.
