The DB II example has a much more realistic/sympathetic paint job than the DB IV version, which makes me wonder if DB IV has been repainted. If so, you might be able to find a place on it where there is a chip or other damage where you could see earlier paint layers.

    Good idea, 2many! Thanks
I was of the notion that the OP's is a newer version of the old theme. While it appears to have honest age, it does not look nearly as old as the other examples.

In any event, due to the climate of our nation, these will not become easier to find.

I am going to have my first grandchild in December so I am going to restore and keep this for a while at least. I haven't been able to find another after about a month of searching.

It is interesting how this thread has highlighted the current extremes in American society.

@antidiem, by "government agendas to create civil unrest and eliminate history" do you mean things such as removing Confederate statues, or removing books that discuss African American history? By "the self-righteous [woke] snowflake climate", are you referring to efforts to label an unlikely number of Americans as pedophiles (as @johnnycb09 experienced), or efforts to mitigate harmful stereotypes and caricatures?

woke: aware of and actively attentive to important societal facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice)

I remember it pretty well, it was a lovely and innocent painting.
I'm sorry the climate of our United States is so messed up nowadays.

Sorry, 2many, that is not a convo I wish to share publicly.
There will never be any sort of a consensus.

Apologies to EVERYBODY that I used the term "woke" bc I should have realized it should be placed in the same "off limits" category as politics and religion and vaccinations and drugs and pedophelia or other sex topics. I don't ever want to discuss any of that here on Antiquers.

We dont have many "reality" threads on here so i think its acceptable when we get on one. I dont find the term woke to be particularly offensive myself,Ive been called MUCH worse over my 59 years . :)

aren't those the woke snowflakes you were talking about ??:playful::playful::playful::playful:

a civil discussion or comment , voiced in a factual and respectful manner.......should be nothing to shy away from. !!

If it hurts someones feelings........let them say so !

If it breeches the sites rules.......the Mods will look after it !!

No, there is no chance of a consensus if we don't listen to each other.

You tossed out a few comments that you probably knew were incendiary, but you don't want to defend them against a gentle pushback.

"Others here who may get their feelings hurt over NOTHING". Are you dismissing what other people may care about, or admitting that what you were saying was without substance?

My thoughts exactly. Almost certainly has been recently painted or repainted. My first thought was that this was a modern reproduction of an older piece. There is a big difference in these two examples, IMO.

This is another thing that raises a red flag. Also the way the eyes are painted with those white dots to create an effect, just seems more recent. Could be vintage, but I have my doubts its antique. I would do full research on this to see what is what.

Looking further at this, it seems that the OP's might be chalkware, which would definitely suggest a more modern repro. You can see white around the man's ear and the view from underneath looks like chalkware.

If you enlarge the section by the ear, it looks like chalkware. Thinking that this could be a 1970s version.
