Hi there, I seem to be on a bit of a tea caddy kick atm for some reason (I have another one coming soon from a different auction too!) I can't seem to find any other Crystal Palace tea caddies, but Google does betray me sometimes. Are these kinds of souvenirs from the Crystal Palace collectible? Also, there is tea inside- could this possibly be original to the caddy do you think or would it have disintegrated by now?! I will likely sell this one but unsure whether I should dump the tea or not. Thanks for any info :)

It is possible that it is the original tea. Tea will have deteriorated so not good to drink but just like dried flowers in books or picture frames that are over 100 years old they look the same maybe faded.

Don't throw out the tea. May well add interest for someone. And doing no harm.

Agreed, I wouldn't want to remove if possibly original to the caddy. It actually smells really good.

Hi Marta, I don't think your cup and saucer are related to the Crystal Palace are they? Perhaps best to create a new thread :)

That’s an original souvenir, not a later one. Lacquer on papier mache. Nice one.

Perhaps this is what you are looking for.....

It is at least a start! Hope it helps

I used to live in Crystal Palace, South London, and walked past the foundations of the Palace everyday. What remains is still quite stunning, not to mention the park and its famous dinosaurs!

I agree with ownedby bear, original souvenir. What are the knobs made out of? That might be a big clue to age.

That image of Windsor Castle is gorgeous!

Though the listing was removed, perhaps it may be possible to ask them to put you in touch with the original seller and see what information they have about the caddy?

I just contacted the Crystal Palace Foundation in the UK to see if they would be interested in purchasing before I sell elsewhere. They are interested and have asked the price. Now I'm really not sure how much it's roughly worth selling for, any suggestions? I would love it to go to somewhere like this who will appreciate it :)

    That would be wonderful!

Hopefully, someone here can help with a rough price. I just hope that they do not, like most museums etc. plead absolute poverty, which sadly is my own experience when dealing with institutions ..........:(
